Product Description:
The CB3054 modular motherboard is produced by Beckhoff as part of the CB Modular Motherboards series. Intended for embedded PC-based controllers, the board provides the processing and I/O foundation for machine builders who integrate EtherCAT or other fieldbus interfaces through carrier cards. Within a compact 102 mm × 147 mm form factor, it supplies CPU, memory, network, and expansion resources needed to coordinate motion, visualization, and data logging tasks inside industrial panels or DIN-rail PCs.
It is built on the GS45 + ICH9M-E (SFF) chipset, which exposes two DDR3 SO-DIMM slots. Populating these sockets with up to 8 GB of system RAM allows large PLC projects and HMI frameworks to run concurrently without swapping. The memory sockets use the 2 x SO-DIMM204 form factor and accept DDR3-1066 modules whose bandwidth suits fanless processors on the GS45 hub. For deterministic networking, the board offers 2 x 10/100/1000Base-T controllers, while a PCI Express lane arrangement of 1 × x4 or four x1 links connects high-speed add-on cards. Storage redundancy is supported because the integrated controller allows RAID levels 0/1/5/10, giving system designers options for mirroring or striping SSDs.
Four SATA channels rated at 4 x 3 Gb/s connect solid-state drives directly, freeing the PCIe fabric for graphical or fieldbus modules. A Mini-PCI Type III slot supplements expansion choices, while ten USB 2.0 ports supply peripheral connectivity. Each port can deliver up to 500 mA, which supports typical low-power accessories such as scanners, service keys, or remote touchscreens. Legacy machinery links through four RS-232 serial ports, and multichannel audio is available as HDA 5.1 for annunciators or operator headsets. All circuits are energized from a single 5 V backplane rail, allowing the module to share a common supply inside compact automation enclosures.
