The CB3010-0021 is a modular embedded controller board delivered by Beckhoff within the CB Modular Motherboards series. Installed behind a touchscreen or push-button panel, it executes PLC logic, handles network communication, and drives local visualization so that individual machines can be tied into a plant-wide Ethernet backbone. By integrating central processing, volatile memory, nonvolatile storage, and common industrial interfaces on a single compact card, the board reduces cabinet wiring and keeps layouts compact in automated production cells. It is intended for fanless operation in environments where vibration and limited space rule out traditional PCs.
At the heart of the board is an Intel IXP420 XScale processor that runs at 533 MHz, delivering ARM-based instruction throughput suitable for deterministic control loops. The CPU is paired with 128 MB of DDR-SDRAM to buffer program variables and graphical data. Two onboard Ethernet controllers expose communication through 2 x RJ45 connectors, and each port supports 10/100 Mbit half- or full-duplex operation for real-time protocols such as EtherCAT or Modbus/TCP. A single RS-232 channel on a DB9 plug offers legacy serial integration with inverters or barcode scanners, while 32-bit memory-mapped I/O lines connect to field expansion modules.
For panel mounting, the board is supplied on a carrier plate that mates with a 15-inch TFT front. The complete assembly occupies a cutout of 366 mm by 301 mm and projects 59 mm into the cabinet, while overall external dimensions reach 380 mm in height and 315 mm in width. The front bezel is sealed to IP65, whereas the rear side meets IP20, so sensitive electronics remain protected against dust and water jets while allowing convection cooling inside the cabinet. Program code is stored in 32 MB of onboard flash, and removable media can be attached through 2 x USB Type-A receptacles positioned at the rear panel.
