The C6640-0040 is an industrial PC unit produced by Beckhoff and sold within the C6 Industrial PC Units series. This fan-cooled controller hosts automation software, exchanges fieldbus data, and drives operator stations through its integrated interfaces. Mounted inside a control cabinet, it serves as the central processor for motion, logic, and visualization tasks in manufacturing, packaging, and process equipment. Its x86 architecture allows computing performance to scale without changing the mechanical footprint. Because processing, communications, and display functions are combined in one cabinet-mounted platform, the PC can coordinate machine control and HMI tasks from a single hardware node.
The power section draws no more than 3 A, so standard 120/230 V cabinet circuits can supply the PC. The enclosure measures 371 mm in width, 336 mm in height, and 198 mm in depth, which fits a 7-U rack opening. The unit weighs 11 kg. It has 4 USB ports for general-purpose expansion, and each port can supply 900 mA to scanners or flash drives. Two DVI connectors, one DisplayPort, and an RS-232 channel support monitor and serial-device connections. Electromagnetic performance follows EN 61000-6-4 for emissions and EN 61000-6-2 for immunity, supporting use in electrically harsh areas.
The housing has an IP20 rating, so the cabinet provides the required ingress protection. Networking is handled by 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports that support segment lengths up to 100 m, enabling direct ties to real-time fieldbus rings or plant backbones. Operation remains stable at ambient relative humidity levels up to 95% without condensation. The Ethernet interfaces can support separate communication paths when a machine requires both control traffic and plant-level network access. Simultaneous output from the dual DVI connections and the single DisplayPort supports large-format visualization when multiple screens are needed.
