Beckhoff designed the C6240-1031-0020 for the C6 Industrial PC Units series as a cabinet-mountable computer that executes real-time control tasks in automated lines. The steel chassis follows the 19-inch rack format and offers processor, memory, and storage resources typical of desktop hardware, but with industrial connectors and a power socket that ties directly into control-panel wiring. In a PLC or motion system, the unit runs TwinCAT or comparable software, communicates with fieldbus modules, and logs process data for supervisory networks, thereby acting as the central platform for deterministic machine operation and visualization.
The housing depth of 274 mm allows the PC to fit shallow enclosures, while the overall height of 170 mm and width of 430 mm leave front-panel space for terminal strips and circuit breakers. Inside, 7 chassis slots accept PCI or PCIe cards so that additional fieldbus masters, high-speed data acquisition boards, or GPU accelerators can be installed without external expansion boxes. The enclosure is rated IP20, which helps protect against accidental contact while allowing cabinet airflow for convection cooling. Operation is permitted in rooms with humidity up to 95% RH when condensation is prevented.
Interface density on the front panel reduces the need for auxiliary hubs. There are 4 USB ports for scanners, backup drives, or human-machine interfaces, and 2 LAN ports that separate a machine network from plant IT traffic. Legacy devices can be connected through one RS-232 socket, while two DVI and one DisplayPort outputs drive multi-monitor setups for diagnostics. Audio is available on three jacks, and keyboard or mouse cables can be routed to the two PS/2 connectors. Field wiring is supported by 5 mm contact spacing on the removable power plug, and conductors down to 1.5 mm² can be clamped without ferrules.
