Product Description:
The C6240-1004 is an industrial PC unit built by Beckhoff and assigned to the C6 Industrial PC Units series. Designed for mounting in electrical enclosures, it provides deterministic computing power, Ethernet-based fieldbus masters, and local storage so automation programs, visualization, and diagnostics can run directly at the machine level. By merging these tasks into one chassis, the controller reduces wiring complexity, simplifies setup, and streamlines maintenance for automated cells and process lines.
For hardware expansion, the chassis offers 7 computer slots that accept CPU or communication boards without external risers. The housing spans 430 mm across the rack, has a depth of 274 mm, and rises only 170 mm, so it fits shallow control cabinets while still leaving room for airflow behind the backplane. Conductor terminations accept 16 AWG wire and conductors with a cross-sectional area of 1.5 mm², while the 5 mm contact spacing maintains dielectric clearance between adjacent pins. Five rear socket contacts distribute auxiliary power; the CSA path is approved for 300 V, whereas the EN path is limited to 250 V. The IP20 enclosure makes live parts finger-safe, but the PC must be installed in a sealed panel for protection against dust.
The computer withstands shocks of up to 5 G for impacts lasting as long as 30 ms, allowing it to remain operational on moving gantries or stamping presses. Internal assemblies continue running at an ambient relative humidity of up to 95% without condensation, so cabinet climate control requirements can be reduced in tropical regions. The integrated power socket carries up to 15 A under CSA certification and 12 A under EN certification, allowing moderate peripheral loads such as sensors, indicator lamps, or small drives to be powered directly from the chassis.
