Internal Product Review
The C1510-001 is a Beckhoff interface card for the Fiber Optic II/O System with a 2.5 MBaud transfer rate. A 32-bit user data width and 25 µs user data time support fast, deterministic exchange in distributed automation tasks. Support for up to 8 communications and a 3 KByte data area makes the interface card a strong fit for responsive fieldbus integration.

Product Description:
The C1510-001 is a plug-in communications module produced by Beckhoff as part of the C1 Interface Cards series. Mounted in a host controller, the card bridges the local CPU bus to a fiber-optic I/O network so distributed terminals can exchange deterministic data with the central PLC. By offloading real-time traffic to dedicated hardware, the card frees processor time and ensures low-jitter field updates in industrial automation cells.
Data moves across the optical link at a peak rate of 2.5 MBaud, which defines the raw serial bandwidth available for cyclic process variables. Inside the host, the card reserves 64 KByte of mapping space so the PLC can address peripheral data with simple pointer arithmetic. A separate 4 KByte region is assigned as host address space for command and status words that control card operation. The firmware updates user payload every 25 µs, providing deterministic refresh even for fast motion loops. All protocol handling is executed by a Siemens SAB 80C166-S microcontroller, so the back-plane CPU remains isolated from serialization tasks. The design supports eight concurrent logical connections, four interrupt channels for event-driven signaling, two handshake lines for flow control, and maintains fiber integrity through dual connectors.
Each logical channel can carry up to 255 bytes in a single frame, and the total buffer capacity for application variables reaches 3 KByte. Payload is organized as words that are 32 bit wide, simplifying alignment with typical PLC data types. Mechanically, the card occupies only 20 mm of DIN-rail space, measures 161 mm across and 107 mm high, and clips into the system rack without auxiliary cooling. Two optical connectors link the card to the Fiber Optic I/O system, while internal design permits a maximum of eight simultaneous communications paths without overrun.
