The C1300 is a VMEbus interface card produced by Beckhoff for the C1 Interface Cards series. Designed for industrial automation systems, the board links a VME host computer to the Beckhoff Lightbus field network, enabling high-speed cyclic data exchange between centralized controllers and distributed I/O stations. The module reserves a data area of 3 Kbytes within the VME memory map for process images that the controller and network logic update in real time. This shared memory arrangement gives the host direct access to current input and output data without requiring a separate communications adapter.
Data moves across the optical ring at a transmission rate of 2.5 MBaud. A complete Lightbus telegram carrying 32 bits in 25 µs is transferred to the dual-port RAM, which has a capacity of 2 K × 8. The shared RAM allows the host and Lightbus circuitry to access process data while keeping their operations coordinated. Up to 4 interrupt channels can be programmed and routed through the VME D08 interrupter line, allowing the host to react promptly to network events. The card can address as many as 254 remote modules on the connected field network. Block transfer cycles are not supported, so exchanges use standard word or byte access instead.
The Lightbus interface coordinates message framing with a handshake capacity of 255 bytes per channel, providing buffer space for typical sensor and actuator data. Within the VME backplane, the board occupies a slave window of 4 Kbytes. It supports the A24/D16 and A24/D08 address and data combinations under the VMEbus Revision C1 standard. The board measures 100 mm × 160 mm, matching the Eurocard format used in compatible industrial racks. Power is drawn directly from the VMEbus rails, so the card does not require an external power supply. An I/O Lightbus optical connector provides the physical process-network link. The optical connection supports electrical isolation between network stations and avoids susceptibility to electromagnetic interference along the fieldbus route. Compatibility with the D08 interrupter scheme allows network events to be reported through the host system’s established interrupt structure.
