The C1110BA is an interface card produced by Beckhoff within the C1 Interface Cards series. Mounted in a controller rack, the board links the S5 bus to Lightbus nodes and to conventional PC-style peripherals, giving an automation system keyboard input, serial communication, parallel printing, and basic video output on a single-slot card. This arrangement reduces backplane slot count and provides a direct path for operator commands, maintenance dialogs, and distributed I/O data to reach the PLC or industrial PC that governs the machine.
Configuration data are stored in a 32 kByte EEPROM, so parameters and user settings survive power cycles. The card draws up to 3 A from the backplane, a figure that must be included in the cabinet power budget. That demand is supplied by 5 V DC via S5 Bus, eliminating the need for auxiliary cables. For field expansion, the Lightbus interface can supervise as many as 254 remote modules, giving deterministic I/O scanning across large installations. Host software can also connect legacy devices through 2 × RS-232 channels, supporting point-to-point links with sensors, modems, or service laptops.
A replaceable Maxell ER3S lithium cell maintains SRAM and the real-time clock at 3.6 V when the cabinet supply is off, preventing configuration loss during lengthy shutdowns. Fault and status codes appear on a front-panel 4-digit ASCII LED display, allowing error numbers to be read without external tools. Process values or boot screens can be shown through a Western Digital WD90C24 graphics controller, which drives a 15-pin VGA port backed by 512 kByte of video RAM. Combined with two PS/2 SIMM slots and an AT-standard keyboard connector, the card supports both local interaction and distributed communication in S5-based automation.
