The BC9191 is an embedded PLC and fieldbus coupler produced by Beckhoff for the BC Bus Terminals series. Mounted at the head of a modular terminal block, it executes IEC 61131-3 logic while passing process images to higher-level Ethernet networks. This arrangement lets a compact DIN-rail station coordinate local analog, digital, and specialized sensors in packaging lines, HVAC panels, or small machines that benefit from integrated control rather than separate remote I/O and CPU components. Its fanless design suits enclosed cabinets where low power and minimal wiring are priorities, and it targets material-handling zones and building services that require deterministic scanning.

The controller draws 100 mA from a 24 Vdc supply, and the K-bus can deliver 200 mA to downstream slices. Up to 64 Bus Terminals are addressable, supporting three digital inputs, two analog outputs, and three analog voltage inputs without extra couplers. Network access uses 2 x RJ45 Ethernet ports that permit direct PLC communication and line topology. User programs occupy 48 kbytes of program memory and manipulate variables in 32 kbytes of data memory. One Pt/Ni1000 channel and one resistance input extend monitoring for temperature or bridge circuits.

For larger projects, the Flash space reserved for source retention is 256 kbyte, allowing commented code to remain stored with the device. Field communication remains efficient because the unit can exchange up to 512 in / 512 out bytes of cyclic data with the host controller, while dynamic objects inside the runtime are limited to a 16 kbyte maximum variable size to reduce memory fragmentation. The slim housing carries an IP20 protection rating and measures 118 x 100 x 70 mm, fitting shallow DIN rails inside control cabinets.
