Product Description:

The BC9020 is an Ethernet Bus Coupler manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the BC Bus Terminals series. The device forms the bridge between a stack of K-bus terminals and a supervisory controller, combining fieldbus communication, integrated PLC functionality, and power distribution in one compact housing. By collecting sensor states, running local logic, and sending the resulting data to the plant network, it streamlines decentralized control tasks in packaging lines, material-handling systems, and other industrial automation equipment.

On the network side, the coupler transmits cyclic process data through an RJ45 connector at a selectable 10/100 Mbaud rate. It accepts 512 bytes from the fieldbus and returns 512 bytes, while its analog I/O capacity supports 512 channels. For discrete signals, the internal K-bus provides a digital I/O capacity of 2040 inputs and outputs, distributed across as many as 64 terminals. These terminals are powered through two 24 V power contacts that can carry 10 A. Data exchange between the coupler and the terminal block uses 85 mA of controller current plus one-quarter of the K-bus demand. The supply voltage for both the electronics and the contacts may range from 20.4 V to 28.8 V DC.

Machine logic runs in the integrated PLC, which has 128 kbytes of program memory, an equal 128 kbyte data area, and 256 kbytes of source code memory for project retention. Runtime variables are transferred through a PLC data channel with 2048 input bytes and 2048 output bytes, which accommodates sizable control tables. During operation, the terminal stack can draw up to 1750 mA of K-bus current from the coupler, so this load must be considered when many active modules are used. The plastic enclosure measures 44 × 100 × 70 mm and mounts on the rail, allowing dense installation alongside other automation components. Its compact housing integrates the network interface, PLC resources, and terminal power connections without requiring separate modules for these functions.
