Product Description:

The BC3150 is a compact programmable I/O station produced by Beckhoff for the BC Bus Terminals series. Acting as a low-level PLC and remote fieldbus coupler in one unit, it links decentralized terminal blocks to higher-level controllers and passes process images directly to the network. Within an automation cell, it handles local signal processing while forwarding consolidated data to the master controller, reducing bus traffic and conserving cabinet space. This arrangement allows time-sensitive logic to run near connected sensors and actuators instead of sending every operation to the supervisory controller.

The unit communicates over a PROFIBUS DP interface that reaches a throughput of 12 Mbaud, allowing cyclic exchange of up to 128 bytes in each direction and an additional 2,048 bytes for PLC variables. A 16-bit microcontroller executes the user program stored in 48 Kbyte of flash and draws working data from 32 Kbyte of RAM. Source files remain in a separate 128 Kbyte storage area so the project can be uploaded when maintenance or configuration changes are required. Local expansion supports 1,024 analog and 2,040 digital I/O points, all mapped into the process image for deterministic access. Parameterization and diagnostics can also be performed through the COM1 port, which provides an RS-232 serial connection for service tools or external HMIs. The internally regulated logic receives power through the terminal bus, keeping wiring consistent with other Beckhoff modules.

The power contacts are rated for 10 A, allowing loads such as actuator relays to draw their supply directly through the terminal row without additional feed terminals. The control electronics have dielectric isolation of 500 V between the system voltage and signal level, which improves immunity to electrical interference in installations with long cable runs. A PROFIBUS segment can extend up to 1,200 m when configured for the applicable transmission rate. The module operates from a field supply of 24 V DC and uses an IP20 enclosure for installation inside a standard control cabinet. The enclosure protects against accidental contact with internal components while allowing the ventilation needed for normal operation.
