Product Description:
The AX8108-0100 is a single-axis unit from the AX Digital Servo Drives series manufactured by Beckhoff for closed-loop control of synchronous motors in automated machinery. It interfaces with the DC link of a multi-axis system and modulates pulse-width-controlled output stages so that commanded torque and velocity profiles are followed accurately in industrial operation. This arrangement allows the module to serve as one controlled axis within a larger drive system.
The control electronics draw only 500 mA from the 24 V auxiliary supply, allowing the drive to stay energized for fieldbus communication during mains dropouts. At an 8 kHz switching frequency, the power stage delivers a nominal phase current of 8 A, while transient demands can be met with a peak value of 20 A for rapid acceleration. Energy is buffered by a DC link capacitor bank rated at 135 µF, and this capacitance smooths ripple while limiting voltage overshoot as regenerative energy flows back from the motor. The link can withstand up to 848 VDC, giving the module headroom when connected to mains rectifiers on 400 V supplies. Thermal dissipation under load is characterized by 11 W/A of power loss at 400 VAC, and a base loss of 12 W covers internal logic and gate-drive circuitry. An integrated brake chopper supplies 1 A to a holding brake so axes can be secured without separate hardware.
The aluminum housing is 60 mm wide, 192 mm deep, and 230 mm high, yet it weighs only 2 kg, which helps simplify cabinet layout. Protection corresponds to IP20, so the drive must be mounted inside an enclosure while the housing still provides protection against accidental finger contact. Mechanical endurance is verified for shocks up to 5 g and continuous vibration of 1 g, supporting reliable operation on moving gantries or near stamping presses. A minimum full-resolution current of 1 A supports stable low-speed operation and smooth control near standstill.
