The AX5X01 is a compact servo drive module engineered by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series used in multi-axis industrial automation cells. It interfaces with EtherCAT motion controllers to supply regulated power to small servomotors and to return regenerated energy to the shared DC link. The unit measures 92 mm in width, 232 mm in depth, and 317.70 mm in height, dimensions that fit shallow control cabinets. By converting single-phase 100–240 VAC or three-phase 100–480 VAC mains into a stable internal bus, it supports precise torque, speed, and position control on two low-current drive channels.
The internal DC link tolerates up to 875 VDC, and its storage element of 235 µF smooths voltage ripple during rapid load changes. Each channel can deliver a steady 1.5 A for continuous motion, and the minimum peak current allocation is 0.35 A. Logic and field-level coordination are handled through 8 opto-isolated digital inputs that accept fast position-latch or limit-switch signals. Additional connectors provide a 1 A sensor supply, a dedicated 0.5 A output for brake release, and terminals for the shared DC bus so multiple drives can be paralleled without external capacitors.
The built-in chopper resistor dissipates a continuous 50 W of regenerated energy, and for higher loads the drive switches to an external network that must not fall below 47 Ω. With that network attached, the drive supports 14 kW during instantaneous braking events and 15 kW during extended decelerations. These brake ratings allow servo axes to decelerate high-inertia tooling without overvoltage trips. Its narrow footprint leaves panel space for additional AX modules, and its shallow depth keeps high-voltage parts away from door-mounted controls to maintain clearances required by UL and IEC installation codes.
