The AX5901-0000 is a single-axis servo inverter produced by Beckhoff and supplied within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. In a motion-control cabinet, the unit converts three-phase mains power into precisely modulated output currents that energize synchronous or induction motors. By closing the torque, speed, or position loop directly at the drive, it forms a compact actuator interface for conveyors, pick-and-place modules, and machining axes in automated equipment. This arrangement allows the inverter to respond rapidly to control commands while coordinating motor output with the programmed motion profile.
The internal control electronics are powered by 24 V DC, so fieldbus nodes and encoder supplies can remain active during mains outages when auxiliary power is available. During continuous operation, the power section can deliver up to 85 A of phase current, allowing the drive to pair with medium-frame servomotors that require high torque. Motor leads are connected through ferruled conductors with a cross-sectional area of 16 mm², while the applicable terminals also accept solid copper conductors with a cross-sectional area of 10 mm² for compact assemblies. When the three-phase input current exceeds 9 A, the internal measurement circuitry recognizes the connection as a mains supply and automatically engages the converter functions. Correct conductor preparation helps establish reliable electrical contact and limits resistance at the terminal interface.
Motor and supply cables made with flexible Class 5 strands can use conductors with a cross-sectional area of up to 25 mm². To secure these large conductors, the terminal clamp is tightened to 2.2 Nm, helping prevent thermal cycling and vibration from loosening the connection. The Us/Up/GND rail carries auxiliary supplies and accommodates conductors sized for the associated control circuits, allowing control-voltage returns to be routed through the designated connection points. Ferrules should match the selected conductor size so the strands remain contained when inserted into the terminal. The available conductor range supports both compact control wiring and larger power connections without requiring the same cable size for every circuit.
