Product Description:
The AX5701-0000 digital servo drive is built by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. As a single-axis controller, it provides closed-loop current and velocity regulation for synchronous and induction motors used in packaging machines, material-handling equipment, and other automated systems. By combining power electronics with integrated feedback evaluation, the unit connects a motion program in the PLC to precise motor shaft movement. This arrangement makes it suitable for distributed EtherCAT-based drive systems where accurate axis control and compact installation are important.
Its command interface includes 4 single-ended and 2 differential digital inputs, allowing the control cabinet to mix standard PNP signals with differential line receivers on the same board. Up to 6 discrete signals can be processed, and each one passes through dedicated opto-isolation before reaching the internal FPGA. The drive uses a single-channel design, so motor power, brake wiring, and field connections are grouped on one axis connection point. Motor feedback connects through a 15-pin circular encoder connector that carries supply, RS-422, and sin/cos signals. The related status signal is referenced to an open-collector alarm output, which supports external monitoring of the sensor supply circuit.
A second feedback socket provides 1 additional encoder input for spindle-mounted or gantry reference sensors. Its diagnostic behavior uses the same input circuitry that limits A–D current draw to 1 mA, helping protect connected signal sources from unnecessary loading. The differential E–F pair is terminated internally with 120 Ω, which supports reliable transmission over longer cable runs without external resistors. Minimum drive firmware of 2.03 Build 0009 is required for BiSS B, Hiperface, EnDat, and 1 Vpp evaluation. TTL wire-break detection is not supported, so open-circuit faults on single-ended lines must be monitored by the higher-level controller.
