Beckhoff’s AX52XX_FP00.5 is a dual-axis servo drive unit in the AX Digital Servo Drives series. The module combines power electronics and control logic to command two motors from a single housing, delivering precise torque, velocity, and position regulation required in automated machinery such as pick-and-place stations or packaging lines. It interfaces with higher-level controllers through the manufacturer’s drive bus, allowing coordinated motion inside a compact footprint suited for panel installation.

At runtime, each axis can deliver a configurable continuous output of 0.5 A, while the shared DC bus allows a maximum total current of 12 A across both channels. The embedded controller completes its closed-loop calculations every 62.5 µs, and input and output data are refreshed every 250 µs, enabling tight synchronization with field devices. The internal link is rated for up to 875 VDC, giving headroom for high-speed positioning tasks. Eight digital inputs capture signals from limit switches or probes. An integrated 24 VDC sensor supply can provide 1 A for encoders or proximity sensors.

During deceleration, the drive can dissipate up to 15 kW through an external braking resistor, and it can absorb 14 kW internally for short bursts when no external resistor is attached. The minimum permissible braking resistance is 47 Ω, which protects the chopper circuit from overcurrent. With a short-circuit current rating of 18 kA, the unit may be installed in panels connected to high-capacity line feeders without additional current-limiting devices. The housing measures 317.70 mm in height, 92 mm in width, and 232 mm in depth, allowing the drive to align with other AX-series components while maintaining adequate airflow between modules.
