Product Description:
The AX52XX-FP00.11 is a dual-axis digital servo drive developed by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. By integrating pulse-width-modulated power stages and field-oriented control, the module energizes two servo motors while exchanging real-time data with machine controllers over a fieldbus. Its role in automation is to translate motion profiles into regulated phase currents, recover braking energy, and coordinate axis groups so conveyors, pick-and-place heads, or rotary tables meet cycle-time and positioning requirements. Local I/O lets the drive capture sensor states and actuate small loads without an external terminal block, which helps keep panel wiring compact.
The drive has 2 independent channels, allowing a single housing to operate two servo axes. The embedded I/O layer provides 8 digital inputs for limit switches or homing sensors, along with a single configurable output that can report drive status or trigger an external relay. That output can source up to 0.5 A, which supports small solenoids or indicator lamps without auxiliary relays. Communication with the PLC takes place exclusively through EtherCAT, so cyclic setpoints, feedback, and diagnostics are exchanged with very low latency. For proximity probes and encoders, the unit supplies 24 V at 1 A of sensor current, and its control wiring accepts conductors with a 1.5 mm² cross-section to simplify ferrule selection.
The power stage accepts a DC link of up to 875 VDC, enabling operation on rectified 400 V three-phase mains. During deceleration, surplus energy is dissipated through the built-in brake chopper, which can handle 14 kW internally. When higher-inertia machines are stopped, an external resistor rated for 15 kW and no less than 47 Ω may be connected. Motor leads are clamped in spring-loaded terminals that carry 41 A per channel and fit cables up to 6 mm². The enclosure measures 92 mm wide, 317.70 mm high, and 232 mm deep, allowing the drive to fit in dense control cabinets while preserving airflow clearance.
