The AX52XX-FP00.5 is a dual-axis servo drive produced by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It interfaces with EtherCAT motion controllers to energize and monitor two motor channels. The drive converts DC link energy into phase-accurate output for position, speed, and torque regulation on automated machinery lines.

The drive electronics run from a control supply of 24 V DC, separating logic power from the high-energy DC link. A controller cycle time of 62.5 µs provides fine torque command resolution, while the current loops are refreshed every 250 µs to track fast motion profiles. The link capacitors tolerate up to 875 VDC, supporting operation on rectified three-phase mains. With a maximum total phase current of 12 A, the unit suits medium-power axes in packaging, assembly, and inspection machines. Protection is limited to IP20, so the module must be placed inside a control cabinet. Cabinet planning is simplified by a width of 92 mm, a depth of 232 mm, and a 317.70 mm height that promotes vertical airflow past the heat sink.

The integrated brake chopper diverts surplus energy during deceleration; an external circuit can absorb up to 15 kW, while the internal resistor dissipates peaks to 14 kW when no external load is present. The brake circuit requires a minimum resistor value of 47 Ω so that chopper currents remain within device limits. For fault clearing, the power stage withstands a short-circuit current of 18 kA, aligning with common branch protection devices. Two motor channels share a DC link yet remain independently controlled, and the 250 µs I/O update time keeps status data synchronized with the motion controller. Correct installation is vertical, aligning the cooling fins along the 317.70 mm height and accommodating the 232 mm depth without obstructing airflow.
