The AX5206-0000-0202 is a dual-channel digital servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Designed for cabinet installation, the unit supplies controlled three-phase currents to synchronous or induction motors so that motion axes in packaging lines, machine tools, or material-handling stations follow precise speed and torque commands generated by a PLC or industrial PC. By combining two amplifier channels in one housing, the device simplifies wiring and shares a common DC link, which reduces the overall footprint and the number of energy-recirculation components required in multi-axis systems.
Each channel can deliver a continuous three-phase current of 6 A, while the shared bus supports a nominal combined current of 12 A. These current ratings indicate the thermal load that the drive can supply without derating. When operating on a 400 V power supply, the inverter exchanges up to 8.3 kVA of apparent power with connected motors, providing headroom for dynamic movement. Energy is buffered in a DC link with a capacitance of 470 µF, and this reservoir smooths regenerative peaks up to a maximum link voltage of 875 VDC. The internal chopper can dissipate 90 W continuously and diverts excess energy to an external resistor with a minimum resistance of 47 Ω. Under rated conditions, the electronic assemblies generate 160 W of power loss that must be removed through panel airflow.
For short bursts, the control loops can supply peak phase currents of 13 A per channel, while a combined surge current of 26 A supports the acceleration of high-inertia axes. During emergency braking, the chopper directs up to 15 kW to the configured resistor, and an internal path can absorb 14 kW for brief intervals. The assembly has an IP20 protection rating, providing finger-safe terminals while requiring installation inside a closed control cabinet. The housing measures 92 mm wide, 232 mm deep, and 317.70 mm high. These dimensions allow the unit to fit common enclosures while leaving clearance for bus bars and cooling channels around the drive.
