The AX5203-0000-0200 is a dual-channel servo drive produced by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. As a drive controller, it modulates the voltage and current delivered to matched synchronous or induction motors, allowing coordinated motion in packaging lines, material handling stations, and general factory cells. By converting a fixed three-phase supply into a regulated DC link and pulsed inverter output, the unit supplies speed and torque commands generated by a PLC or EtherCAT master.

With a 480 VAC supply, the drive can draw an apparent power of 5.0 kVA, which affects transformer and circuit breaker sizing in the cabinet. Each channel delivers a nominal output of 3 A and can rise to 10 A for acceleration intervals, while the combined bus permits a device peak of 20 A; this current range covers small-frame servo motors without oversizing the cable set. A continuous braking capability of 150 W is provided through the integrated chopper, so routine deceleration does not overheat the electronics. During operation, the 470 µF DC link smooths ripple, the link voltage can climb to 875 VDC, and a minimum peak current of 1 A per channel is maintained for reliable current sensing. Internal losses are limited to 85 W, which helps simplify cabinet ventilation requirements.

For emergency stops or high-inertia axes, the internal brake transistor can absorb up to 14 kW of regenerative energy. If that limit is exceeded, an external resistor as low as 47 Ω allows dumping up to 15 kW into a protected load bank. The housing carries an IP20 rating, so it must be mounted inside a switchgear enclosure with forced airflow. Mechanical dimensions are fixed at 92 mm in width, 232 mm in depth, and 317.70 mm in height, allowing the unit to share bus bars and cooling channels with adjacent AX5200 modules while preserving uniform wiring clearances.
