The AX5203-0000-0010 is a dual-channel servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It converts a shared DC bus supply into controlled phase currents for two independent motor axes, enabling coordinated motion in automated assembly, packaging, and handling systems. Through its EtherCAT interface and onboard signal conditioning, the device forms the link between higher-level PLC commands and the electromagnetic torque required at the motor shaft. This arrangement lets one compact module support precise speed, position, and torque regulation for paired axes in industrial automation cells.
Each output channel can continuously deliver 3 A, while transient demands are covered by a peak capability of 10 A per channel and up to 20 A for the entire device. The DC bus can rise to 875 VDC, allowing energy recovered from motor braking to be reused before excess is dissipated. A bus capacitance of 470 µF stores this energy and smooths voltage fluctuations during rapid load changes. Eight 24 V digital inputs permit edge-triggered events such as limit switch monitoring, drive enable signals, and other machine interlocks handled at the drive level. The integrated sensor supply provides 1 A for encoder electronics, and external dynamic braking elements must be at least 47 Ω to keep the brake circuit within its intended operating range. In cabinet layouts, the unit occupies 92 mm of width, 232 mm of depth, and 317.70 mm of height, with a mass of 6 kg.
The braking circuit has a continuous brake power rating of 150 W and a short-term peak of 14 kW, so regenerated energy can be diverted during deceleration without immediate overload. The connected load may reach 5 kVA, which indicates the apparent power available during simultaneous acceleration on both axes. Under nominal conditions, the drive electronics dissipate 85 W as heat, so enclosure airflow has to account for the thermal load during continuous operation. These values are useful when matching the drive to the power section of a multi-axis machine.
