Internal Product Review
The AX5201-0000-0010 is a Beckhoff AX digital servo drive with 2 channels and 1.5 A nominal current per channel. Peak current of 5 A per channel and 10 A peak device current support precise, responsive motion control under changing loads. A dual use frequency of at least 600 Hz makes this drive a strong choice for high-performance servo applications.

Product Description:
The AX5201-0000-0010 is a dual-axis digital servo drive produced by Beckhoff in the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Designed for cabinet mounting, the unit interfaces with EtherCAT motion controllers to energize matched synchronous or induction motors in industrial automation cells. It regulates current, velocity, and position on two independent axes, delivering precise closed-loop control for conveyors, pick-and-place modules, and machine-tool feed drives. Because the power stage and control electronics are integrated, wiring is simplified compared with discrete amplifier solutions.
Both axes are serviced by 2 channels, each rated for a continuous current of 1.5 A. During acceleration or shock loads the drive supplies up to 5 A per channel, while a shared bus permits a device-level pulse of 10 A for short durations; this headroom allows motors to overcome static friction without derating. The energy storage element in the common DC link is a 235 µF capacitor bank that smooths regenerated energy and limits voltage ripple. A minimum peak current of 0.35 A is available for very light loads. Mechanics are compact, measuring 92 mm in width, 232 mm in depth, and 317.70 mm in height, so the unit fits inside 300 mm deep control enclosures without overhang.
The internal shunt resistor dissipates braking energy continuously at 50 W, and an external resistor port supports peaks to 15 kW provided the connected element is at least 47 Ω. The DC link can rise to 875 VDC before the drive issues an over-voltage fault, a threshold matched to rectified three-phase mains. Thermal management is aided by a calculated power loss of 55 W, permitting passive cabinet airflow when ambient temperatures are moderate. Firmware revision v2.06 and a dual-use frequency capability of 600 Hz or higher extend compatibility with high-speed spindles and linear motor axes.
