The AX5140-0000-0200 is a single-channel digital servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It interfaces with EtherCAT motion controllers and supplies controlled three-phase output to machine-mounted servomotors, allowing precise torque, speed, and position regulation in automated assembly lines, packaging machines, and material-handling axes. The drive is intended for networked motion systems that require fast response, stable axis control, and compact cabinet installation.
This drive delivers a nominal output current of 40 A under continuous load and can supply a short-term peak of 80 A for rapid acceleration or shock loads. When connected to a three-phase 400 V mains supply, its apparent power requirement is 28 kVA, which helps size upstream circuit protection and cabling. Energy is buffered in the DC link by a capacitance of 1485 µF; this stored energy smooths regenerative surges and helps stabilize bus voltage during changing load conditions. The intermediate circuit must remain below a maximum of 875 VDC, and the drive issues a fault if that limit is exceeded to protect the power semiconductors. Mechanical integration is supported by enclosure dimensions of 317.70 mm in height, 185 mm in width, and 232 mm in depth, while the motor connector requires 1.0 Nm tightening torque to maintain reliable high-current contact.
The braking section dissipates regenerated energy internally at 150 W continuous and up to 26 kW peak, letting the axis decelerate without feeding power back to the mains. For higher dissipation, an external resistor bank can absorb as much as 32 kW, provided the resistance does not drop below 22 Ω. Thermal loss inside the drive is 510 W, so panel ventilation must remove this heat during sustained operation. The housing has an IP20 rating for basic finger protection, and the minimum channel peak current capability starts at 18 A, allowing derated operation with smaller motors.
