Product Description:
The AX5118-0000-0202 is a single-axis digital servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. The unit rectifies and modulates incoming energy to supply controlled current to brushless servomotors, allowing automated production cells to execute accurate positioning, velocity, and torque profiles. Its integrated communication ports connect directly to Beckhoff TwinCAT or other PLC platforms so motion parameters can be tuned in software without external converters.
During operation, the power stage delivers a continuous phase output of 18 A, while transient demands are handled by a peak ceiling of 36 A. Energy is buffered in the DC link, which has a capacitance of 1485 µF and can reach a maximum of 875 VDC during regenerative braking. The 24 V auxiliary rail requires only 1.1 A, so control electronics remain energized even when mains power is isolated. Eight digital inputs process limit, homing, or enable commands; Output 7 can source 0.5 A for contactors, and a dedicated sensor supply provides 1 A for encoders. An internal brake chopper can continuously absorb 200 W and signals an overload through the fieldbus.
For applications that demand rapid deceleration of heavy loads, the drive routes surplus energy to an external resistor of at least 22 Ω; when that component is present, it can dissipate up to 32 kW of braking power. Overall heat generation is modest, but enclosure ventilation must accommodate a rated power loss of 255 W. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating and measures 317.70 mm in height, 185 mm in width, and 232 mm in depth without connectors, permitting installation in 300 mm cabinets. Installation clearances remain compact because all signal and power terminals are front-mounted, and cables exit downward to avoid side extensions.
