Product Description:
The AX5106-0000-0210 is a single- and three-phase servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Serving as the interface between a 400 V AC supply and a machine’s motor windings, it rectifies, stores, and modulates energy so that precise torque vectors and high spindle speeds can be produced on demand. An integrated brake chopper manages regenerative energy, while the control electronics communicate with higher-level motion controllers in machining, packaging, and material-handling cells.
With an apparent power of 4.2 kVA at 400 V, the drive can deliver continuous thermal output without exceeding its cooling capacity. A DC-link capacitance of 235 µF smooths the rectified bus, supporting short current surges and stabilizing the intermediate circuit. The link can rise to a maximum of 875 VDC before the brake chopper activates, protecting power devices from overvoltage. In three-phase operation, the nominal output is 6 A, whereas the single-phase rating is 4.5 A; both are monitored with 1 A peak-current resolution for tight current loops. The controller can supply up to 13 A for rapid acceleration, enabling connected motors to reach spindle speeds as high as 60,000 rpm without losing field orientation.
External braking energy can be routed to a resistor bank rated at 15 kW, while the internal brake circuit handles momentary peaks up to 14 kW and supports continuous dissipation of 150 W. Under full load, the drive itself dissipates 85 W, a figure used when sizing cabinet ventilation. The housing measures 92 mm wide, 232 mm deep, and 317.70 mm high, allowing high-density installation on DIN rails. A minimum external resistor value of 47 Ω prevents overcurrent in the brake path, and the peak output current is measured in single-ampere steps so that tuning can match motor thermal limits without unnecessary margin.
