The AX5106-0000-0000 is a servo drive module built by Beckhoff as part of the AX Digital Servo Drives series. The unit rectifies three-phase supply power into an internal DC link and generates controlled PWM output for synchronous or induction motors, enabling the position, speed, and torque loops required in automated assembly lines and packaging machinery. Through the EtherCAT interface, the drive exchanges setpoints and diagnostics with a motion controller while handling regeneration through integrated braking circuitry. Its role in an automation cabinet is to provide energy conversion, dynamic motor regulation, and protective monitoring in a compact form factor.
Inside the drive, a DC link capacitance of 235 µF stores energy and smooths voltage during rapid load changes, while the link may rise to 875 VDC under permissible overvoltage conditions. The power section can deliver a peak phase current of 13 A, supporting quick acceleration of medium-inertia axes. During deceleration, up to 150 W of continuous internal braking power is dissipated, and short bursts can reach 14 kW through the built-in transistor stage before external resistors are required. The housing measures 92 mm in width, 232 mm in depth without connectors, and 317.2 mm in height, allowing high-density cabinet layouts with adequate airflow.
For duty cycles that exceed the internal limit, the terminal for an external resistor accepts elements as low as 47 Ω, letting the drive divert as much as 15 kW of braking energy without thermal derating. Overall power loss in normal operation is 85 W, and the drive has an IP20 ingress rating that requires installation in an enclosure. Reliable function is specified between 0 °C and 50 °C ambient, up to 95% relative humidity, and at elevations not exceeding 1000 m above sea level. The drive is intended for enclosure installation and operation within those ambient conditions.
