Product Description:
The AX5103-0000-0202 is a digital servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff and assigned to the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Within an industrial motion system, the unit sits between the mains supply and a synchronous or induction motor, shaping phase currents so that speed, torque, and position follow commands from the automation controller. By rectifying the incoming three-phase line, storing energy in a DC link, and generating controlled output waveforms, the drive supports precise closed-loop motion on conveyor axes, pick-and-place gantries, and multi-axis machining centers. Its control role also helps the machine respond smoothly to changing loads and rapid speed transitions without sacrificing axis accuracy.
Under continuous load, the power stage delivers a nominal phase current of 3 A, while short-term demand is supported by a peak capability of 7.5 A; the current ceiling can be trimmed to 1 A for delicate actuators. The DC bus rises to 875 VDC and is buffered by 235 µF of capacitance, supplying an inverter that can synthesize fundamental frequencies up to 599 Hz. Internal circuitry converts surplus kinetic energy into 50 W of continuous braking heat, and a chopper channel handles 14 kW when the application decelerates aggressively. When an external resistor of at least 47 Ω is connected, additional regenerative energy is diverted without overstressing the bus.
The enclosure measures 317.70 mm in height, 232 mm in depth without front connectors, and only 92 mm in width, allowing dense cabinet layouts, and the installation weight is 4 kg. All live parts are finger-safe behind ventilation slots, and the enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, so the device must be installed inside a closed control panel in dusty or humid locations. For high-inertia axes, the integrated braking transistor permits external energy dissipation up to 15 kW, which helps keep regenerative braking events from pushing the DC link above its intended limit. The slim housing also leaves more room for neighboring modules, cable routing, and vertical airflow inside compact cabinets.
