Product Description:
The AX5103-0000-0020 is a single-axis digital servo drive produced by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. As a drive controller, it supplies regulated current and DC-link power to synchronous and induction servomotors, enabling precise speed and torque control in automated machinery, packaging cells, and material-handling lines. The unit interfaces directly with Beckhoff TwinCAT or other PLC platforms to close motion loops and coordinate multi-axis sequences.
With a single-phase 230 V supply, the converter handles apparent power up to 1.2 kVA, while a three-phase 400 V supply raises this limit to 2.1 kVA. One power channel routes the output, so the channel count is fixed at 1. At the motor terminals, the drive delivers a nominal current of 3 A and can rise momentarily to 7.5 A for acceleration bursts. These currents are supported by an intermediate circuit that may reach 875 VDC, providing the energy buffer needed for rapid torque changes. Eight digital inputs are available for enable, limit, or homing sensors. Internal dissipation is rated at 50 W of power loss during continuous operation, and this heat is removed through the convection-cooled aluminum housing.
The DC link stores energy in a 235 µF capacitor bank, moderating voltage swings when the motor regenerates. For dynamic stops, the internal chopper can send up to 14 kW into an onboard brake resistor, and an external connection supports peaks of 15 kW. Sustained absorption is limited to 50 W of continuous brake power to keep components within thermal limits. When an auxiliary resistor is connected, its resistance must not fall below 47 Ω to prevent overcurrent. The enclosure measures 92 mm wide, 232 mm deep, and 317.70 mm high, giving it a slim profile for DIN-rail cabinets while maintaining clearance for wiring and airflow.
