Product Description:
The AX2506-B510-0000 is a single-axis servo amplifier created by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Serving as the interface between a motion controller and a synchronous or induction motor, the unit regulates torque, velocity, and position in industrial automation cells. By converting DC-bus energy into controlled three-phase output, it enables precise indexing, coordinated moves, and energy-efficient operation of machinery such as pick-and-place gantries, packaging stations, and material-handling axes.
Beneath the front cover, the drive accepts an analog command span of ±10 V and a logic supply from a dedicated 24 VDC auxiliary rail, while high-speed current loops are refreshed at a controller clock of 8 kHz. Four digital inputs and two digital outputs provide discrete control signals for enable, limit, or fault acknowledgment. The DC-bus and power stage are dimensioned for a maximum installed load of 7 kVA. Motor compatibility is determined by the permissible inductance window: a minimum of 7.5 mH prevents excessive ripple, and a ceiling of 40 mH avoids sluggish current response. Cable runs can extend up to 25 m without exceeding EMC guidelines. An output current form factor of 1.01 indicates current is nearly sinusoidal, minimizing additional copper losses.
Thermal and protective functions complete the profile. The electronics sit in an IP20 enclosure suitable for cabinet mounting where airflow is controlled externally. If the DC-bus exceeds 450 V, an internal circuit disconnects the stage to shield semiconductors and connected motors. During fast accelerations, the power module can supply a peak of 12 A rms for five seconds, and continuous operation is rated at 6 A rms. Base losses are limited to 15 W of quiescent dissipation and 60 W when delivering nominal current, values that inform cabinet cooling calculations.
