The AX2503-B900 is a digital servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It converts DC-link power into sinusoidal phase currents so that synchronous or induction motors can follow precise motion commands in industrial handling systems, test stands, and multi-axis cells. A built-in TwinCAT real-time Ethernet interface links the drive directly to the machine controller, allowing deterministic data exchange without separate fieldbus couplers. This arrangement lets motion commands and drive status travel through the same control network.
The enclosure is rated at IP20, so installation is limited to closed electrical cabinets. The analog monitor channel has 14-bit resolution, letting the controller capture small feedback changes for tighter loops. Four opto-isolated command channels provide 4 digital inputs for limit switches, and two transistor stages supply 2 digital outputs for status flags or brake-release logic. Because the I/O is opto-isolated, external control signals are separated from internal electronics, which helps reduce the effect of electrical noise in cabinet wiring. Current vectors are modulated at an 8 kHz output stage clock, which pushes current ripple above the mechanical bandwidth of most motors and improves torque linearity. Communication with higher-level automation takes place over the TwinCAT real-time Ethernet fieldbus, while filter and power terminals remain on the top edge to support streamlined wiring.
The drive supplies a peak phase current of 9 A rms for short accelerations and sustains 3 A rms during steady-state motion. Heat generated under those conditions equals 35 W, and quiescent circuitry draws an additional 12 W when the motor is disabled. That loss is removed by free convection through top and bottom vents, eliminating the need for forced airflow. The housing measures 100 mm wide, 230 mm high, and 240 mm deep without connectors. With a total mass of 3 kg, multiple units can mount side by side on standard backplanes without exceeding common cabinet depth allowances.
