The AX2503-B200 is a digital servo drive produced by Beckhoff as part of the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It regulates torque, velocity, and position for matched servomotors in industrial automation, and it accepts command data over the Lightbus fieldbus. The drive uses free convection cooling and carries an IP20 enclosure rating, so it must be installed inside a control cabinet. With a footprint of 100 mm in width, 230 mm in height, and 240 mm in depth, plus a weight of 3 kg, it suits densely packed multi-axis panels without requiring extra cooling hardware around the housing.
The internal control hardware operates at a clock frequency of 8 kHz, allowing current loops to be updated every 125 µs. Under steady load, the power section can source a rated output of 3 A rms, while short transients can be handled with a peak capability of 9 A rms. Thermal management at that rated current produces only 35 W of dissipation, and when the axis is disabled, the quiescent heat loss falls to 12 W. These heat losses help limit temperature rise when several drives are mounted in the same enclosure. A passive convection path removes heat through the aluminum housing, which keeps the cooling arrangement simple and avoids added airflow components.
The power supply section is dimensioned for a continuous installed load of 7 kVA, giving adequate headroom for dynamic motion profiles on machines such as pick-and-place gantries or rotary tables. A DC-bus monitor disconnects the mains if the intermediate circuit exceeds 450 V, protecting downstream electronics during abnormal conditions. For motor matching, the permissible load inductance ranges from a minimum of 12 mH to a maximum of 75 mH, which supports stable current regulation across different compatible winding designs. This operating range helps the drive maintain smooth axis response during rapid positioning and repeated speed changes.
