The AX2090-B900 is a communication interface module produced by Beckhoff for use within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It provides an Ethernet link so the drive controller can exchange real-time process data with PLCs and PC-based control systems. When the module is inserted into the appropriate slot of an AX drive, the controller gains deterministic network access for synchronized motion sequences in industrial automation cells. This arrangement supports coordinated data exchange between the drive and the higher-level control platform without requiring a separate external interface unit.
Six numbered address switches labeled DIP 1-6 let the user assign a unique device identity on the local control network. A separate switch at position DIP 7 enables or suppresses BOOTP during network setup. Communication occurs over TwinCAT Real-Time Ethernet, which supports microsecond-level cycle times for precise drive profiles. All selector positions are grouped in an 8-pole DIP package that is accessible at the front panel, and operating status is shown by 4 diagnostic LEDs whose color and blink pattern indicate link integrity, activity, and detected faults.
The network connection is presented on a single 1 x RJ45 fieldbus port, which helps simplify cable routing inside control cabinets. Updates can be loaded over LAN or COM port connections, so the module does not need to be removed from the machine for this task. Drivers from the Intel 8255x family are supported, and the runtime environment must use TwinCAT version 2.9 or higher to handle VLAN tagging, priority bits, and the 12-bit identifier width used on the system subnet. These settings allow the module to pass timing-sensitive control traffic with the low latency expected in synchronized drive applications.
