The AX2070-B110 is a three-phase digital servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It converts rectified mains power into controlled AC output for precision motion control, making it suitable for positioning axes, gantries, and high-speed production lines. Integrated power electronics and real-time control loops supply the commanded torque while exchanging status data with higher-level automation systems over the built-in network.
Its control loop updates at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz, so current and velocity errors are corrected at submillisecond intervals. When operated on a 480 V DC link, the amplifier delivers a continuous phase current of 70 Arms and can handle surges up to 140 Arms for rapid acceleration. Communication and diagnostic data flow through the EtherCAT fieldbus, and two RJ45 ports support line or ring topologies without external switches. The continuous S1 apparent power rating is 50 kVA, indicating the load that must be supported by the cabinet transformer. An output current form factor of 1.01 indicates that the sinusoidal waveform has minimal distortion. The housing is 250 mm wide and 325 mm deep with the connectors installed, allowing its dimensions to be considered during panel layout. Its residual voltage drop of 5 V limits losses between the DC link and the motor. At idle, the electronics draw only 40 W, reducing standby heat buildup inside the cabinet.
For dynamic braking, the internal chopper directs excess energy into the regeneration circuit, allowing continuous dissipation of 6 kW and pulse peaks up to 70 kW during abrupt deceleration of heavy loads. If these limits are approached, an external 10 Ω resistor can be connected to extend the braking duty cycle. Operation at rated current produces 700 W of heat, which must be removed through appropriate cabinet cooling and ventilation. The aluminum chassis weighs 21 kg, so the mounting panel must provide adequate structural support and vibration resistance.
