The AX2020-B750-0000 is a digital servo drive produced by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Serving as the power interface between a motion controller and a synchronous motor, the unit modulates DC-bus energy to generate a controlled three-phase output for positioning, speed, and torque loops in automated machinery. It is intended for cabinet installation in multi-axis systems where rapid current control and integrated regeneration are required for cyclic industrial processes. Its control electronics execute closed-loop algorithms through a high-resolution current vector, enabling repeatable motion in packaging, material-handling, and printing lines.
In the power stage, the drive supplies a continuous phase current of 20 Arms and can deliver up to 40 Arms for short acceleration bursts, giving headroom for dynamic load profiles. These currents correspond to a rated installed load of 14 kVA. The pulse-width-modulated inverter operates at 8 kHz, and the selected switching frequency balances motor acoustics with semiconductor losses. Even under rated current, the internal heat sink dissipates only 200 W, while standby operation settles at 15 W. A residual output voltage drop of 5 V remains across the IGBTs, and the permissible motor inductance spans 2 mH to 12 mH, allowing the drive to operate low- and high-reactance windings without instability.
Control signals reach the amplifier through a differential analog input that presents 20 kΩ of impedance and is scanned every 62.5 µs, giving the controller tight current-loop feedback. For network integration, the module carries a Sercos interface on an F-SMA fiber connector, enabling deterministic, noise-immune communication. Drive logic and brake circuits are energized by a 24 VDC auxiliary bus, and when the motor brake is engaged, the supply must furnish up to 3 A. Kinetic energy returned from decelerating axes is first dissipated by the internal chopper with 200 W capacity; if additional headroom is needed, an external resistor of 33 Ω can be wired to the terminals to prevent DC-link overvoltage.
