Product Description:

The AX2020-AS is a two-axis digital servo drive from Beckhoff in the AX Digital Servo Drives series. By converting a 400 VAC supply into precisely timed three-phase output, the module regulates motor torque and velocity. It anchors motion loops in packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and assembly stations, providing closed-loop current and voltage control for accurate positioning. EtherCAT connectivity and integrated diagnostics also let the controller exchange status data quickly, so faults and operating states can be monitored through the automation network without separate interface hardware.

Its installed load requirement of 14 kVA sets the cabinet power budget. During continuous duty, the inverter supplies 20 A rms, and short acceleration bursts reach 40 A rms. Switching and copper losses at nominal current create 200 W of heat that must be removed, while standby demand falls to 15 W. An output current form factor of 1.01 indicates that the reconstructed waveform is almost sinusoidal, which helps limit additional motor heating. Regenerated energy is routed to a 33 ohm braking resistor, or to the internal braking chopper if no external resistor is used. The link between the DC bus and phase terminals has a residual drop of 5 V. Two analog monitor outputs, four programmable digital inputs, two programmable digital outputs, and an input impedance of 20 kΩ to analog ground complete the signal interface.

Stable current regulation requires motor inductance to stay between 2 mH and 12 mH. Values outside that range can cause loop oscillation or overvoltage faults during operation. A safety restart lock implemented with a built-in relay keeps the power stage disabled after an emergency stop until a supervised acknowledgment is issued by the control system. This arrangement helps prevent an unexpected restart when power is restored or an interlock is reset.
