The AX2006-AS is a digital servo drive manufactured by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It interfaces with motion controllers to regulate motor torque and velocity, forming the power stage of multi-axis systems used in packaging, material handling, and assembly lines. By modulating DC-bus energy into three-phase output, the unit supplies precise current profiles that let synchronous and induction motors follow position commands accurately. This operating role makes the drive suitable for applications that need repeatable motion and stable response during changing load conditions.

An auxiliary logic rail of 24 VDC keeps the control electronics active for parameter retention and fieldbus communication even when the main supply is off. During continuous operation, the drive supplies a phase current of 6 A rms, while short acceleration or deceleration peaks are accommodated by a capability of 12 A rms. Switching and conduction losses generate 60 W of heat at rated load, so panel airflow or heat sinking must remove this energy. Compatible motors must present a terminal inductance between 7.5 mH and 40 mH so the current loop remains stable during operation. The control input shows 20 kΩ resistance to AGND, which helps limit loading on the reference source.

When the inverter stands idle, it still dissipates 15 W, and the DC-bus hardware is sized for an installed load of 4 kVA. Internal dynamic braking can absorb up to 200 W; applications with higher regenerative energy can use an external 33 Ω resistor for added braking capacity. Mass is held to 7.5 kg, and the housing measures 120 mm in width, 275 mm in height, and 265 mm in depth, allowing compact cabinet installation. A residual 5 V drop across the output stage must be considered in motor voltage calculations so the required torque can be maintained at maximum speed.
