The AX2003-AS is a compact digital servo drive produced by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. It interfaces between a motion controller and a three-phase servo motor, modulating current and voltage to provide precise position, speed, or torque control in automated machinery such as packaging stations and gantry axes. By integrating signal conditioning, power electronics, and a safety relay in one housing, the unit streamlines cabinet layouts and supports scalable multi-axis systems.

The command stage accepts an analog reference of ±10 V through a 20 kΩ input, allowing direct connection to PLC or motion card outputs with minimal loading. Under continuous duty, the inverter delivers a rated phase current of 3 A RMS, while transient moves can draw up to 6 A RMS without violating the thermal model. A load range from 12 mH to 75 mH supports stable control of typical iron-core servo windings. The internal current shaping keeps the output current form factor at 1.01, and the DC-link design limits the residual motor voltage to 5 V during switching events. With a rated installed load of 2 kVA, the drive can service medium-power axes while remaining efficient in densely packed enclosures.

The control electronics are fed by an auxiliary bus of 24 VDC. When the motor brake is not engaged, this rail draws 1 A, which helps limit cabinet power demand. For vertical axes, the integrated brake driver sources up to 2 A, and a separate BTB/RTO output can supply 500 mA to interlock contactors during emergency stops. Heat produced in the power stage reaches 40 W at rated current, while quiescent operation releases only 15 W, which simplifies passive cooling calculations. A safety relay classified as Positive-Action provides force-guided contacts for STO functions without additional hardware.
