The AX2001 digital servo drive is produced by Beckhoff within the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Designed as a compact axis controller, it delivers regulated AC power to synchronous or asynchronous servo motors used in pick-and-place stations, packaging lines, and other industrial automation systems. By processing position, velocity, and torque commands in real time, the unit links motion tasks to the overarching EtherCAT or PLC logic and provides the electrical interface between low-level feedback devices and the plant power bus.
Its output stage is rated for a continuous motor phase current of 1.5 Arms, with short-term surges up to 3 Arms to cover acceleration demands. The supply section must provide an installed load of 1 kVA so that the DC bus remains stable under full torque. Energy returned during deceleration is absorbed internally at up to 80 W, reducing the need for external braking resistors in low-inertia installations. An output current form factor of 1.01 indicates that the drive’s RMS and average currents are nearly identical, simplifying thermal calculations for motor windings. Base losses include 15 W of quiescent dissipation and 30 W at rated current, figures that guide cabinet ventilation sizing. The drive output voltage must account for a 5 V residual drop, an allowance that becomes relevant when sizing low-voltage motors. For mechanical holding needs, the unit can supply 2 A to an external brake coil directly from its brake output terminal. Motor inductances between 25 mH and 150 mH are supported, allowing the drive to work with both high-speed and high-torque windings without compromising current-loop stability.
