Product Description:
The X20BC0083 is an input/output bus controller module manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. This unit links distributed I/O slices to the machine network and passes process data to higher-level controllers, allowing modular expansion of machine automation systems without local PLC hardware. It mounts in a compact rail housing designed for installation inside electrical cabinets. Acting as the bus coupler at the head of an X20 station, it forwards local power and time-critical synchronization to each attached terminal. This arrangement lets the station operate as a compact network node for nearby sensors, actuators, and other modular I/O points.
The module operates from a supply voltage of 24 VDC delivered through the X20 backplane, and its internal electronics consume only 2 W, keeping cabinet thermal load low. Two shielded twisted-pair lines compliant with the CAT5 SFTP category connect the controller to the network, and the embedded 2-port switch presents 2 x RJ45 sockets for easy daisy-chain wiring. Cyclic process data and fast synchronous channels are transferred over the POWERLINK fieldbus interface, so deterministic timing is retained across the entire I/O slice. The integrated hub automatically manages collision domains and supports line diagnostics without external switches. This layout keeps incoming and outgoing network connections on the same module and helps maintain orderly cable routing inside the cabinet.
Despite its small 37.5 mm width and 75 mm depth, the housing provides continuous DIN-rail engagement. The plastic enclosure stands 99 mm tall, fits within tight panels, and projects minimal distance from the mounting surface. It tolerates installation vibration up to 4 g without data loss, and its electronics remain functional between -25 to 60 °C when mounted horizontally or up to -25 to 50 °C in vertical orientation. Reliable communication is maintained up to 2000 m operating altitude, so the module can be used on elevated production floors or test stands without derating. These mounting limits help preserve stable operation when the module is installed in narrow control panels with limited open space.
