The B & R Automation 3PS794.9 is a controller in the System 2005 Controllers series. It delivers a total output power of 50 W with 24 V and 5 V outputs rated at 48 W and 26 W respectively. The unit accepts an input voltage between 187 and 265 VAC and includes an expansion slot.
Internal Product Review
The 3PS794.9 is a B & R Automation power supply for System 2005 Controllers, designed for 230 VAC nominal input and 50 W total output. Separate 24 V and 5 V rails rated at 48 W and 26 W support stable controller and peripheral distribution. An integrated expansion slot and a normally open ready relay add useful flexibility for clean system integration.

Product Description:
The 3PS794.9 is a power supply module manufactured by B & R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. It installs alongside the controller CPU to provide regulated DC rails and a ready contact that allows the control logic to verify that stable voltages are present before operation begins. Within an automation cell, the module transforms single-phase mains energy, monitors its output, and signals downstream I/O so that sequence execution starts under stable electrical conditions.
The AC front end accepts a minimum input of 187 VAC, operates nominally at 230 VAC, and tolerates up to 265 VAC without derating. Under worst-case loading, the line draw is limited to 0.4 A, while an internal slow-blow fuse rated at 1.6 A disconnects the unit if sustained overcurrent occurs. Overvoltage protection responds before a transient reaches 500 V and clips the event in less than 10 ms to protect downstream circuits. This response prevents short surges from reaching the sensitive logic circuits supplied by the converter.
Total available DC power is 50 W, shared between a 24 V rail that can deliver up to 48 W for solenoids or sensors and a 5 V rail that supplies up to 26 W for logic circuits. The combined load must remain within the module’s total available output. A normally open ready relay carries up to 3 A and is rated for 270 VAC or 30 VDC; its contacts are protected by a 780 V voltage-dependent resistor that limits inductive kickback. The relay closes only after an internal buffer charged to 12 V confirms stable operation. An expansion slot allows optional interface boards to draw auxiliary power without additional wiring while remaining within the converter’s available output capacity.
