The 3PS792.9 power supply module is manufactured by B&R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. It occupies a base carrier in the controller rack and converts the incoming AC supply into regulated low-voltage outputs while operating a ready relay for cabinet monitoring. Within an industrial automation node, the device powers CPUs, communication cards, and attached expansion slaves, helping logic and field signals remain within tolerance during startup, steady operation, and brief power disturbances. Its housing follows the rack’s established mechanical profile, allowing wiring and cooling to remain consistent across compatible installations.
The input stage has a nominal rating of 230 VAC but remains functional at voltages as low as 187 VAC and as high as 265 VAC. This operating range allows the controller to withstand feeder sag or brownout conditions without an immediate dropout. Internal rectification and filtering limit the input current to 0.4 A maximum, simplifying breaker selection for panels that contain multiple supplies. A field-replaceable 1.6 A time-lag fuse on the line side limits fault energy and coordinates with upstream protection. The circuitry can tolerate a 500 V peak overvoltage for up to 10 ms, providing protection against brief, nonperiodic transients commonly caused by motor contactor switching.
The downstream rails have a combined limit of 48.5 W total output. Individually, the 24 V bus can supply up to 48 W, while the 5 V bus can supply up to 26 W for logic loads; simultaneous loading must remain within the combined limit. A normally open ready relay has contacts rated for a 3 A switching current, allowing it to interface directly with suitable PLC inputs or indicator lamps. The relay circuit includes a 780 V VDR protective element that clamps transient voltage and helps reduce electrical stress on the contacts. The module can distribute power to multiple base units while preserving isolation and predictable power-up sequencing throughout the connected rack.
