B&R Automation manufactures the 3PS754.9 for the System 2005 Controllers series. The unit mounts in a standard System 2005 rack and functions as a combined power source and communication hub for the controller backplane. By delivering conditioned power and a bridge to additional expansion hardware, it forms the starting point for CPU inserts, digital and analog I/O, and motion modules that coordinate repetitive or high-speed tasks inside automated machinery and process work cells.
Electrical supply flexibility is provided through an input range of 230 VAC / 220 VDC, allowing the same hardware to be used on AC mains or battery-backed DC buses without configuration changes. The internal converter delivers 50 W of continuous output, which is adequate for a base CPU and several I/O boards while still leaving margin for diagnostic circuitry. Physically, the module spans 2 contiguous rack positions, letting system designers account for its footprint during panel layout. Installation is constrained to the far-left slot, a fixed location that ensures the power bus aligns correctly with the backplane traces. Downstream communication to optional peripherals is carried through an expansion slot interface that transfers power and serial data to the neighboring carrier board.
Scalability is addressed by support for up to 4 Ex350 expansion racks, so a single power stage can energize multiple remote clusters without a separate supply. For data retention during brief outages, the external buffer input accepts an AC240 Battery Module, maintaining the logic rails until mains power is restored. Integral short-circuit protection disconnects the output when excessive current is detected, safeguarding both the module and attached loads. The hardware also recognizes an XP152 CPU insert, enabling a higher-performance processor to be mounted directly beside the supply without additional wiring or carriers.
