Product Description:
The 3ME965.90-1 from B & R Automation is a controller module in the System 2005 Controllers series. Installed on a backplane beside standard CPU cards, it adds nonvolatile program memory and integrated buffering so the control task can continue safely through brief drops in line voltage. The unit serves as the main repository for sequence logic, setpoint tables, and parameter archives used in packaging, textile, and material-handling equipment. By keeping storage on the module rather than relying on an external UPS, it reduces cabinet complexity and keeps retained data available during short supply interruptions.
The module incorporates an internal capacitor that maintains the application program memory for a minimum of 10 minutes, so short power interruptions do not compromise volatile data. Program code is stored in 2 MB FlashPROM, giving nonvolatile capacity for complex PLC tasks, while dynamic variables reside in 1 MB SRAM for fast read and write cycles during operation. A hardware switch-on module enables write protection, and when it is engaged, unintended changes to the flash area are blocked. New program data is loaded through Logic In Module FlashPROM programming, so updates can be written directly on the module without an external burner.
Status during programming is shown by an LED display, which gives immediate visual feedback without a serial console. The aluminum housing measures 140 × 20 × 90 mm, allowing high-density stacking on a DIN rail inside compact panels. When a battery is installed, safe storage is limited to -20 to +60 °C; without a battery, the permissible range extends to -20 to +70 °C. The narrower battery-installed range helps protect the battery during storage, while the broader battery-free range allows the module to be kept in less controlled environments before installation.
