Product Description:
The interface module 3IF782.9-1 is manufactured by B & R Automation as one of the 2005 family of controllers with two modes of communication support. It comes with integrated RS485 and POWERLINK V1/V2 interface. The RS485 communicating is done using a power strip of 4-pins with a maximum transfer rate of 115.2 kbit/s. This module supports a maximum range of communication up to 1200 m.
The 3IF782.9-1 interface module's POWERLINK interface is real-time Ethernet interface that connects to network through a shielded RJ45 port. The cable length of POWERLINK might go up to 100 m and it supports 100BASE-TX on standard Ethernet. The POWERLINK interface possesses half duplex only but the module on itself does not lack full-duplex functionality with upgradation and it offers a transfer rate of 100 Mbps. The POWERLINK interface has auto-negotiation feature to determine the best possible speed and duplex mode. The traffic on both RS485 and POWERLINK can be monitored through LEDs as well as from its operating software. The 3IF782 interface module has isolated both the interfaces electrically and it supports flexible wiring through MDI/MDIX. Its power supply takes 3.3 VDC and consumes 2.5 W along with a usage of 0.3 W from 5 VDC, to make the overall power requirement 2.8 W.
The 3IF782.9-1 interface module is designed for controlled cabinet installation due to its protection of IP20. It is compatible with temperatures from 0 to 60 degrees C and supports storage temperature between -25 to 70 degrees C. The 3IF782 interface module's tolerance of humidity is 5 to 95%, non-condensing. It fits in CP360 slot and the terminal block TB704 should be ordered separately. This module is CE and UL approved and it is available online on Wake Industrial with one year warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions about 3IF782.9-1:
Q: How does electrical isolation benefit the 3IF782.9-1's communication interfaces?
A: Electrical isolation prevents cross-interference between RS485 and POWERLINK, improving signal integrity and system stability in noisy industrial environments.
Q: Why is the POWERLINK interface limited to half-duplex on the 3IF782.9-1?
A: The default half-duplex mode minimizes latency in time-critical automation systems, though the module hardware can be upgraded for full-duplex where needed.
Q: What is the role of Auto-MDI/MDIX in the POWERLINK interface of 3IF782.9-1?
A: Auto-MDI/MDIX simplifies Ethernet wiring by automatically detecting cable type, eliminating the need for crossover cables and reducing configuration errors.
Q: Why does the 3IF782.9-1 use a shielded RJ45 connector for POWERLINK?
A: A shielded RJ45 helps reduce EMI and crosstalk in high-speed industrial environments, ensuring stable data transmission at 100 Mbps.
Q: How does the 3.3 VDC and 0.3 W on 5 VDC contribute to module efficiency in 3IF782.9-1?
A: This dual-voltage supply design ensures efficient load balancing and helps in reducing heat generation in densely packed installations.
