Wake Industrial LLC is not an authorized distributor of this product.
The B & R Automation 3IF779.9 module is part of the System 2005 Controllers series and has a total power draw of 2.51 W. It provides IF1 RS485/RS422 communication through a 9-pin female DSUB connector, supporting a maximum distance of 1200 meters at 115.2 kbit/s. The module also includes IF2 CAN bus with a maximum distance of 1000 meters at 500 kbit/s, and an IF3 X2X Link master fieldbus.
Internal Product Review
The 3IF779.9 is a B & R Automation System 2005 controller communication module built for demanding industrial networking. PLC-to-interface isolation and interface-to-interface isolation support stable signal integrity in mixed-bus installations. If2 CAN bus communication at up to 500 kbit/s stands out as a strong advantage for responsive control.

Product Description:
The 3IF779.9 interface module is manufactured by B & R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. Mounted on the controller backplane, it equips a PLC with three independent field channels so data can move between central logic, remote I/O islands, and motion devices. This card functions strictly as a communication extender; it has no user-program memory but converts the internal bus signals into standard industrial serial formats, allowing the base controller to supervise machinery spread across a production line without additional processors.
The board draws 0.77 W from the 3.3 V rail and 1.74 W from the 5 V rail; together these demands produce a total load of 2.51 W on the power supply. Interface 1 uses a 9-pin female DSUB connector and transmits over RS485/RS422 differential signaling. With built-in interface-to-interface and PLC-to-interface galvanic isolation, signals on Interface 1 remain electrically separated from both the controller core and the other ports. When cabled with shielded twisted pairs, it sustains communication up to 1200 m at line rates that reach 115.2 kbit/s, supporting long single-drop links to operator panels or frequency drives in a plant environment.
Interface 2 is terminated on a 4-pin male multipoint plug and carries CAN frames. CAN’s higher bandwidth is reflected in a maximum data rate of 500 kbit/s and a network reach of 1000 m when node count and cable impedance follow ISO 11898 guidelines. Interface 3 presents an X2X Link master connection; station spacing for this proprietary bus is 100 m, letting the module coordinate distributed B & R I/O slices without repeating hubs. The electronics sit in an enclosure rated at IP20, indicating finger-safe protection but the need for installation inside a closed control cabinet.
