By providing multiple electrical layers on one board, it supports deterministic data exchange required for coordinated motion and process tasks.
Interface 1 occupies a 9-pin female DSUB connector and carries a balanced serial link that can operate up to 115.2 kbit/s. This channel remains reliable over cabling runs of 1200 m because it uses the differential signaling of RS485/RS422. The second port uses a 4-pin male multipoint plug for a CAN bus segment. At 500 kbit/s it handles medium-speed cyclic traffic, and its galvanic design supports network trunks reaching 1000 m without repeaters.
