The 3IF681.96 is a control module that provides safe interface functionality for small modular systems. It provides a standard interface, which provides point-to-point serial communication efficiency found in typical automation environments. The only variation from some versions is that there is no electrical isolation in this interface, so grounding and interference concerns must be taken care of in each installation.

Despite all this, there is a protective circuit for protection and input filtering at the interface to provide secure and reliable signal passage without any risk or deviation in noisy electric environments. It can work up to 15 meters at 19200 Baud. It can also reach up to 115.2 kBaud under ideal conditions for efficient data transfer.
