Product Description:
The 3EX282.6 bus controller is produced by B&R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. In an automation cell, it occupies a single rack slot and bridges the local I/O stack to an Ethernet field network, letting sensors, drives, and a supervisory PLC share cyclic process data through a unified backbone. By combining network management with backplane communication, the unit eliminates the need for separate interface modules while preserving deterministic update times.
This controller is classified as a bus controller and communicates over POWERLINK. Physical signaling uses 100BASE-T, so twisted-pair cabling carries network traffic in compliance with IEEE 802.3 standards. A rated throughput of 100 Mbit/s is the maximum bandwidth available for time-critical control frames. The port design is an Internal 2-Port Hub, which allows a simple in-line topology because two RJ45 jacks are switched inside the module. For installations that must span production floors, a permitted segment distance of 100 m between nodes matches standard Cat 5e copper links. Two POWERLINK interfaces are present, and galvanic separation helps prevent ground loops between the backplane logic and external devices. Status LEDs marked Bus Function and I/O Module report operating state, and the node registers on the network as a controlled node that accepts timing from a managing master.
The environmental and electrical envelope includes a protection rating of IP20, so the unit is intended for enclosed panels without exposure to airborne dust or liquids. Total internal dissipation is only 3.8 W, which helps keep cabinet heat load low in compact installations. Mechanical indexing to slot PS465 ensures the correct backplane pinout, and the node identification Controlled Node means that deterministic scheduling, redundancy, and cable diagnostics are handled by an external POWERLINK managing node rather than by this module.
