The 3DM455.60-2 module is manufactured by B&R Automation for the System 2005 Controllers series. It is an I/O and motion interface that combines discrete signal acquisition, output driving, and position tasks inside an automation rack. By handling stepper and encoder feedback locally, the unit offloads the main PLC and supplies tightly timed control signals to field devices on a 24 VDC instrumentation rail.

The module has 8 digital inputs processed through a sink-type circuit, and each is filtered to a maximum delay of 2.5 µs to suppress contact bounce without adding noticeable latency. The input section accepts field power at 24 VDC, and group isolation keeps the input block galvanically separate from the output block even though there is no channel-to-channel isolation. A dedicated barrier exists between every field group and the controller backplane, so channel-to-PLC isolation is present while channel-to-channel isolation is not. Pulse generation is supported through integrated Pulse Width Modulation, and built-in logic can execute Stepper Motor Control sequences while simultaneously performing encoder evaluation for closed-loop positioning. The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, limiting installation to clean switch cabinets where finger protection is sufficient. External sensor power is expected, so field transducers draw supply from a separate auxiliary rail. Because isolation is arranged as input-group/output-group rather than per channel, wiring practices must respect the common reference layout to avoid ground loops.
