B & R Automation manufactures the 3DI486.6 input module for discrete signal acquisition within the System 2005 Controllers series. Installed on the controller backplane, the unit translates field-level sensor states into logic-level data streams so that the PLC CPU can evaluate on/off conditions in real time for factory machinery, material handling, and packaging cells. This arrangement lets the controller monitor switches, photoelectric sensors, and other binary field devices without requiring analog conversion.
